Abu Dhabi-based airline Rotana Jet has started its operations to Dhaka. The inaugural flight, operated by an Airbus A319, touched down Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on June 25 morning with 108 passengers on board and the return flight left Dhaka with 102 passengers for Abu Dhabi.
A ceremony was organised at HSIA to mark the launching of Rotana Jet’s Dhaka flight. Air Vice Marshal M SanaulHuq, GUP, ndc, psc, Chairman, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) was the chief guest on the occasion. Sk. Bashir Ahmed Mamun, Director and CEO, Speedy International Ltd, GSA of Rotana Jet in Bangladesh and Geetha Ravindranath, Head of Sales, Rotana Jet spoke on the occasion, among others.
Rotana Jet will initially operate three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Flights from Abu Dhabi will arrive in Dhaka at 6:35am and the return flights will leave for Abu Dhabi at 7:35am. Flights will be operated by Airbus A319 with 120-seat capacity.
The airline plans to operate to Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport from July 2. Also three weekly flights will be operated between Dhaka and Abu Dhabi on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays in the future.
Passengers from Bangladesh will enjoy convenient connections via Abu Dhabi to destinations like Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Muscat, Beirut, Kuwait and others in the GCC countries and Levant. Each passenger of Rotana Jet will be allowed a generous 20kg baggage allowance.
Rotana Jet was founded in 2010 and having its operation-based at Al Batin Airport in Abu Dhabi. The airline, other than scheduled services, also operates chartered services. Rotana Jet’s network includes 14 destinations, mainly in GCC countries and Levant as well as in Sri Lanka.
Speedy International Limited, a concern of Sheltech group having its office at Banani, has been appointed as the General Sales Agent (GSA) of the airline for Bangladesh.
Rotana Jet is the first and only privately owned scheduled air carrier of United Arab Emirates with an Air Operating Certificate issued by UAE GCAA. Rotana Jet operates both Scheduled Airline services and Executive Charter Services.
On June 2, 2012, Rotana Jet became the UAE’s first domestic airline with the inauguration of services between Abu Dhabi and Sir BaniYas Island. Rotana Jet strengthened its commitment to improve connectivity within the United Arab Emirates by operating services to Dubai and Delma Island to its route network. In addition to the domestic network Rotana Jet also operates international scheduled services to Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Salalah, Colombo and Mattala.
