Leading towards change-Shuvo Chowdhury,Managing Director, RRM Electronics World Limited


Shuvo Chowdhury one of the rising star in the business industry who became the Managing Director of country’s one of the most recognized brand in the electronics world. Shuvo Chowdhury, Son of Abul Bashar Chowdhury and Yasmin Bashar Chowdhury is now responsible for country’s leading and established brand in both local and foreign market that maintaining the ethical standard and creating optimum value to clients. The brand is popular for ensuring customers maximum level of satisfaction. The Pages recently had an interview with this Young Star.

  1. The Pages: Can you speak a short history about RRM Electronics World Limited(RRMEWL) ?

RRMEWL is a sister concern of RRM Group, which started from June-2015 with a view to meet up the needs of advanced technology compensation. Basically, this idea came up in my elder brother’s mind (Sumon Chowdhury, the Chairman of RRM Group). He used to visit different stores for different needs and desire but could not get all the global brands. He had to go abroad to have those branded products. He realized that lot of people are facing the same problem. Especially those, who demands exotic and extraordinary products. Therefore, he came up with an idea that he will make an electronic store where he would cover up all the electronic products such as home appliances, kitchen appliances along with other IT products. This is how the journey of RRMEWL started.

  1. The Pages: How did RRMEWL start the newly leading electronic company in Bangladesh?

Currently, we have products from 100 different brands where the categories of products are exceeding day by day. We have segments for home and kitchen appliances, along with IT products, Health care products and many more. Under ‘Home and Kitchen Appliances’ we are selling Refrigerator, Air-Condition, Television, Kitchen hood, Stove, Oven, Deep Freezer, Lights, Fan, Vacuum Cleaner, Toaster, Pressure Cooker, Rice Cooker, Blender, Coffee Maker, Juicer, dining set and many more. For ‘IT Products’ we have Laptop, Mobile, Camera, Sound Speaker, Smart Watch, Newly gadgets, Computer, Tab, Pad and accessories that cover up all the IT Products. Lastly, below ‘Health Care’ we are retailing trimmer, Hair Dryer, Diabetic Machine, Blood Pressure Machine, Ear Thermometer, weighing Scale and we are bringing more category based on the demands of the customers. Depending on the season of Bangladesh for example winter, summer or spring and rainy or when it’s about the cultural festivities, there is always demand for different products. For example, in summer the demand for AC accelerates and in Eid the demand for refrigerator increases. Thus, whatever our customers demand for, we try to deliver the best service through our products to satisfy our consumers.

  1. Tell us about yourself and how did you started your journey as a managing director?

I’ve received my high school degree from international school Dhaka. Now I am completing my degree from a private university. Ever since I was a kid, I looked upon my dad as my Idol. My father became paralyzed back in 2003, due to his physical condition. We had a really tough time back then. At that time, we only had one major business, which is producing steel bars for construction sites. Due to my father’s condition, my elder brother had to take all the responsibilities at a very young age. He was 17 years old.My father and my brother worked very hard throughout their life to build their career and that actually motivated me to get involved in our family business. Afterreceiving my degree from International School Dhaka, my brother encouraged me to run my education and our business at the same time, as he had done the same. Yes, it is tough to maintain both but when the reality kicks in your life with difficulties, you learn to manage. Before, I began with my Managing Director post in RRM Group, first I had to gain 2 years of business experience from our mother concern ‘THE RANI RE-ROLLING MILLS LTD’, where I played my role as a Deputy Managing Director. When RRMEWL began its journey, I got the Managing Director’s position.

  1. Tell us about current global Electronics brand market in Bangladesh.

It has evolved tremendously. There was a time, when people thought twice before buying a refrigerator, TV, mobile, Air-Condition etc. But now, people purchases electronics like it’s nothing. I think the 2 key reasons for those are affordability and need. Need is something that human can’t live without and if that falls underneath their budget, then they would certainly not waste any time to buy it. Further more,it also depends on, which brand and what quality we are talking about. Customers will buy products that will last long and which brands they belong to. For example, if we talk about television, people would first think of Samsung, Sony, Sharp, LG, Panasonic, Toshiba, as they are the leading brands in television sector in Bangladesh. If our customer requires for any other new brands, then we can manage that as well. This service applies for every single category of products we have.

  1. What are the biggest challenges a MD faces today?

From my perspective, I would say when it comes to making quick solo decisions at critical times. You never know, what roadblocks you might face, if your decision turns out to be wrong. But business is about taking risks, so I have to overcome this challenge and learn to face it on a regular basis. Some say ‘ You have to work hard to gain success’ and some say ‘ You have to work smart to gain success’. I say that you have to choose in between these 2 theories based on what position/situation you are at. Latching yourself with one theory for the rest of your life will not be a wise decision. I am still learning and trying to handle Challenges because it is for those, who aim to achieve success. 

  1. The Pages: RRM EWL is leading of global Electronics brand/ products retailer and distributor in Bangladesh. Tell us about the quality of product& Service.

Every product that we bring in our Electronic store has warranty with it, which guarantees the quality of the product. Most of our items are directly imported from companies, where it’s being made. Hence, I can assure our customers to have faith on us.If a customer buys our product and it appears with any kind of damage internally that has not been caused by the user, then we will repair it under our expenses and if it is not repairable then we will replace it with a new one. The best mechanism about our RRMEWL is that we have most of the electronics global brands covered in our store. As I have mentioned before, we have 100 global brands. For example, Hitachi, Panasonic, Genaral, Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, EWL, LG, Whirlpool, JVC, Zaiko, Fisher and Paykel, Vest Frost, Philips, Fotile, Apple, Htc, Asus, Oppo, Huawei, Dell, Hp, Lenovo, Nikon, Canon, JBL, Beats, Bose and many more. We never compromise in terms of the quality of our product.

  1. The Pages: How would you assess Bangladesh as a potential for Electronics user zone?

User for electronics products are increasing and there is no doubt about it. Day by day the generation is changing and everything is getting advanced. For example, people used to use mobile phone only for calling at first. But now smartphone are available and using it one can record voice or can video, use notebook or Email, use social network or can google anything. Thus electronic products have made our work easier and swift now. So there is no specific reason rather dependence of technology very normally made people more interested to electronic products. And that’s why Bangladesh is obviously a potential Zone for electronics user.

  1. What is expand plan to introduce new product in the comingEidulAzha?

As Eid – Ul – Adha very close to us and people started using fridge more then, so keeping that in mind, we are importing fridges from many foreign countries and giving a special offer or we can say package actually.  With refrigerator and one or two other products we are giving huge amount of discounts.  Actually it does not have to be a specific product rather customer can enjoy different types of offers with different products. And when someone is borrowing 2 or things together there will be a package of offers with discount and other facilities. We are offering 10% discount on Refrigerator, Deep refrigerator, TV and 5-25% discount on kitchen Appliance products (Trams &Conditions Apply)

  1. What is your opinion about the current Facebook Commerce in Retail market in Bangladesh?

I think it is the best way to promote your product, as it reaches millions of people within short amount of time. Facebook is a social network, which connects people no matter where they are.Most of the people uses Facebook. We even have created our own RRMEWL Facebook page, where it views the latest upcoming product lines. Despite this, for our customer’s comfort we have also created our very own E-commerce page and RRMEWL app, where you can search for all our product lines and order them online. No matter where you live in Bangladesh. Our delivery team will reach you and handover the product safely.

  1. What advice would you give the young people of today?

From my life’s experience, I would suggest all the youngsters to look ahead in life. Give your best shot in everything that you do. It doesn’t matter if you get 10/10 or 2/10. You gave your best and that’s what matters.‘Do not let others demotivate you. Instead, get rid of them and stick with the ones that motivate you. Success will come’.I grew up in a society, where I had gone through lot of discrimination and demotivation. It really dragged my life downwards. The moment I decided to get away from those, my life started changing. I kept on believing in myself and tried my best in every sector, that I worked on. This strategy of mine really got me where I am now.  There is one message that I really want to share with all my fellow youngsters of Bangladesh. Memorizing cannot and will not help you in a long run. You have to understand the work because that’s how you can make a move in the real world.

  1. The pages: You are the person who brainstormed brilliant ideas to promote entrepreneurship. Which of your projects are you very satisfied with and which ones do you think need further improvement?

So far, I have only worked on RRWEWL after gaining 2 years of experience from THE RANI RE-ROLLING MILLS LTD. This project was my first individual step towards business world. I am very satisfied with what my team and I have created. But still there are other works to be done and one of them I am strongly looking forward to is marketing our brand to the public of this nation. People out their still have less idea and whereabouts about RRMEWL. I can feel what our customers feel regarding availability of global brands and innovative products in Bangladesh. Therefore, I am intensely focusing on keeping everything near to our customers for their satisfaction.

  1. The Pages: Tell us the importance of Fashion & Health in career.

I love working out to maintain my healthy life. I have a private gym built on the top floor of our office. In terms of fashion, I am into more decency rather than funky. I would rather be me than to become a wanna be.
