U Turn Consultancy and Events is one of the Bangladesh’s “Corporate” event management company, delivering and manages successful events, meetings and conference across the nationwide. It became a part of the 3rd Bangladesh Expo 2017 by the initiative of Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal which is a single country trade fair organized every year. Therefore he speaks about possibility of this fair in an interview session with The Pages.

Tell us about Bangladesh expo 2017. What the basic purpose of it and which sectors you are focusing on?

SyrusQuamrul: This five-day Expo was mostly focus on introducing and familiarizing the wide variety of goods and products that are being manufactured and exported globally by Bangladesh to Nepali entrepreneurs and consumers with a view to further enhancing the existing excellent trade and business relations between Bangladesh and Nepal.

The Expo was showcasing products of entrepreneurs and renowned business houses from Bangladesh including Building and construction materials, Ready Made Garments, Plastic products, Cosmetics, Ceramics/tiles, Jute and jute products, Leather products, Textiles, Footwear, Electronics items, Handicrafts, generators/machineries, Processed food, IT Solutions, Education Institutions, Consumer products, Batteries, Cement, Bathroom Fittings, Motor Cycle, Home Appliance, Jewelry etc.

Selected Nepalese exporters had also been invited to showcase their products at the Expo with a view to promoting Nepalese exports to Bangladesh. It was expected that the Expo will create a platform for exchange of information and ideas and provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs of the two countries to explore B-2-B linkages for harnessing the available synergies in the areas of trade and business for mutual benefit.

What is about the new comers? How can they get benefited through this expo?  And this is going to be a great opportunity for new entrepreneurs of both countries, isn’t it?

Syrus Quamrul: Bangladesh exports increasing every year in Nepal. And Walton, a conglomerate based in Bangladesh that produces electronics, motor vehicles, and telecommunications products already took their own share of market. Rahimafrooz group also a well-known name in Nepal for the best Battery Manufacturer Company as well as Pran-RFL for their consumer products. Conglomerate like ACI Group, Ifad Multi Products Ltd., Bashundhara Group and Sajeeb Foods, Daffodil Family, MIR Ceramic and Cement, Sharif Metal, NOA Food, Golden Son, Galaxy Electro Power etc. companies also attend in this expo. A number of Bangladeshi Educational Institution and IT solutions companies were also planning to venture their services in Nepal after their participation.

Other prominent participants of the fair were Apex Footwear, the biggest Bangladeshi leather footwear brand, and Runner, Bangladeshi manufacturer of two-wheelers. Through Runner Bangladesh has started a glorious journey in its industrialization by stepping into the global market through exporting motorcycles to Nepal.

 

Tell us about U Turn and it purposes.

What is the present condition of the import-export business between Bangladesh & Nepal?

Syrus Quamrul:The expo, according to the Bangladeshi ambassador, will work as a platform to increase imports of Bangladeshi products to Nepal. Nepal currently imports more than 20 products from Bangladesh, including medicine, solar products, raw jute, jam, powdered milk and potatoes. Nepal imported goods worth Rs 4 billion from Bangladesh in fiscal year 2015-16, as against exports of Rs 1.20 billion. This was the second year in a row that Nepal had registered trade deficit with Bangladesh. Nepal was enjoying trade surplus with Bangladesh since 2004-05.

What is the key role of u turn here?

Syrus Quamrul:As I told before that this five-day Expo was mostly focus on introducing and familiarizing the wide variety of goods and products that are being manufactured and exported globally by Bangladesh to Nepali entrepreneurs and consumers with a view to further enhancing the existing excellent trade and business relations between Bangladesh and Nepal. The expo will not only strengthen bilateral relations, but business-to-business linkages as well. Where U Turn Consultancy and Events tries to contribute their part.

Will it be inspiring and beneficial for women entrepreneurs?

Syrus Quamrul:As per our Bangladesh govt. mandate and EPB’s we try to arrange subsidy price to promote women entrepreneurs. And as per policy of our company we also tries encourage woman entrepreneurs as much as we could to. We think it’s our social responsibility to empower the women in a whole.

Tell us something inspiring for the new entrepreneurs.

Syrus Quamrul: It is needed to see and observe first hand basis which we mention as the feasibility study in our term to assess the market condition without that you can’t able to expand your business. For the new entrepreneurs I will advice to join this kind of expo to assess the market they like to expand their business.
