All autism will get allowances from the next budget: PM -Musanna Mustafiz

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has highlighted the steps taken by her government for the welfare of people with disabilities and said that the government will provide allowances to all disabled people from the next budget.

“We will provide the allowances to the disabled people from the next budget, inshallah,” – she said, adding that the present government is giving a monthly allowance to 10 lakh disabled persons at a monthly rate of Tk 700 and according to the Census report, there are now 14 lakh disabled people in the country. They will be covered under the allowance in future.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the chief guest at a function organized by the Social Welfare Ministry on 12th World Autism Awareness Day-2019 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital. The Prime Minister said children with autism will be able to live together with everyone in the normal life if they get health care.

Referring to the children with autism, who are skilled in a particular field, he said, that there are enough knowledge and talents among them to be used. Sheikh Hasina called upon the wealthy people of the society to come forward to utilize the talent of the disabled, she said, if you give them a job, then their life is also meaningful. They can use whatever they get as much as possible.

He said that his government increased the time of half an hour to SSC and HSC examinations for the disabled, the Prime Minister said, the disabled students get a little more time than normal students get so that they can give the test accurately. Because they cannot finish writing like everyone else at the same time.

The head of the government said, his government always wants that the disabled people do not stand by the burden of society in any way. He said, ‘Do not make them feel burdened. Because they have dormant talent. ‘

In the meantime, the Prime Minister showed all the people with ‘bottle of mineral water’ and said, ‘It is made by our disabled people’. He also invited all to buy this water.

Sheikh Hasina said in the example of the versatile verses of the people with disabilities, visually impaired people are making plastic wrap and cane, making different types of cultural materials. He collected and used them when he got the opportunity, he said.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that every year the Eid and the New Year greetings cards are collected from the handicapped paintings at a fixed price. 

She said that her daughter and the pioneer of global autism movement SaimaWazedHossain created an album with cards made from this painting from the disabled. The Prime Minister said that her government is sending these cards as a gift to different places.

 

 Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed presided over the function. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik, State Minister for Social Welfare Sharif Ahmed and Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman Rashed Khan Menon spoke on the occasion as special guests. Ministry of Social Welfare Joint Secretary Zuena Aziz delivered the welcome speech. An SSC examiner expresses his feelings at the program for autism.

At the function, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has rewarded five children with autism in recognition of their special contribution in different fields and also awarded three personalities and three organizations in recognition of their special contribution in creating autism awareness. He lit the blue lamp at the ceremony. The United Nations General Assembly announced on April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day. The theme of the day is- “The use of assistive technology is the person’s right to autism.”
