General of Iran’s Kurdistan province Customs Office Bakhtiar Rahmanipour said on Tue. that more than $1 billion worth of goods were transited from Kurdistan’s Bashmakh border crossing in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2019). The Bashmakh (Bashmaq) border post is located approximately 50 kilometers east of the Kurdish city of Sulaimani in Iraqi Kurdistan. The official border of Bashmakh-Marivan is the only transit border crossing in Kurdistan and is considered as one of the most important official land borders of the country with Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), he added.
Rahmanipour said in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday that the amount of transit in the first three months of the current year (March 21, 2019– June 21, 2019) from the border of Bashmakh in the same quarter was 13,332 tons worth $3,595,953. He announced the amount of foreign transit from the customs to 258,699 tons worth $1.6883, adding that a total of 428,802 goods worth 1,151,608 in Transit province.
Customs office in Kurdistan’s Bashmakh border is busy acting in the field of transiting, importing, exporting goods and also passenger’s affairs. In addition, 156,771 tons of goods, valued at $87,128,892, were exported from Bashmakh border crossing in the same period, Rahmanipour stressed. According to Bakhtiar Rahmanipour on Jan. 28, the volume and value of exports from the provincial border checkpoints recorded a 63 percent increase during the first 9 months of the Iranian year of 1397 (Mar. 21- Dec. 22, 2018) compared to the same period last year.
According to Rahmanipour, Bashmagh customs office in Marivan Governorate reported exports of 619,243 tons of goods worth $591.915 million during the first nine months of the Iranian year of 1397 (Mar. 21- Dec. 22, 2018). He added that the volume and value of exports through Bashmagh crossing showed 102% and 107% growths, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Kurdistan province customs office has active branches in Sanandaj, Bashmakh border in Mariwan, Siranband border crossing in Baneh which are offering quality customs services to economic activists and entrepreneurs, Director General of Kurdistan province Customs Office Bakhtiar Rahmanipour added.
